At a recent City Council meeting, Council member John Chapman pushed back against critics of the city’s new rainbow crosswalks in Old Town celebrating the LGBTQ community.

The crosswalks, a project City Council member Kirk McPike helped spearhead, debuted this year in time for Pride Month. The crosswalks at the intersection of King and Royal streets are a permanent new addition to the city’s streetscape.

Just in time for Pride Month, a new LGBTQ+ bar opened in Del Ray on Tuesday night.

The Pride on the Avenue pop-up is the only bar catering to Alexandria’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning community.

Local favorite Port City Brewing Company is getting in on the action too with Priday Market and Drag Show next weekend.

Alexandria is kicking off Pride Month in June with a Pride Fair on June 1.

The event will feature live music, food trucks and activities from 3-6 p.m. at Market Square (301 King Street). The event will include a Drag Story Hour at 3:30 inside City Hall.
