Alexandria’s Continued Unemployment Claims Going Down, First-Time Claims Climbing

Continued claims for unemployment continue to fall in Alexandria, while the number of initial (first-time) claims for the week ending Nov. 14 jumped 70% over the previous week, according to the Virginia Employment Commission.

There were 1,628 continued claims for the week ending Nov. 14, a sharp decrease from the 1,933 claims filed for the week ending Nov. 7. There were also 1,942 continued claims for the week ending Oct. 31; 2,340 claims for the week ending Oct. 24; 2,353 claims for the week ending Oct. 17; and 2,891 claims for the week ending Oct. 10.

Latest Torpedo Factory Plan Redesigns First Floor — “As far as the first floor, staff plans to make the space more interactive, which could involve relocating artists throughout the building. JOBS: Initial and Continued Unemployment Claims Down in Alexandria

Initial and continued unemployment claims fell last week in Alexandria, according to the Virginia Employment Commission.

There were 102 initial (first-time) claims for the week ending Nov. 7, which is a decrease from 164 initial claims from the week ending on Oct. 31.

Elderly resident rescues dog walker pinned under 500-pound headstone — “When Suzanne Dalton went out to walk her dog in Bethel Cemetery… one fall afternoon, the last thing she expected was to have a literal brush with death. Alexandria Man Shot to Death in Georgetown — “Officers from the Second District responded around 2:56 a.m., to the 3300 block of Water St., N.W., for the sound of gunshots. They found Franklin Hernandez Arevalo, 19, of Alexandria, Virginia suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Alexandria Voted 80% for Joe Biden — “The vote total in Alexandria, as of Wednesday morning, was 65,201 or 80.4 percent for Biden, the former Vice President; 14,251 voted for Trump.” [Alexandria Living]

Alexandria Reaches Complete Count in 2020 U.S. Census — ” The Bureau’s Crystal City Area Census Office, which includes all of Alexandria, was the only such office in the Washington, D.C. metro region to count 100% of households by the time data collection ended on October 15. Weekly Unemployment Claims Down in Alexandria

Initial and continued unemployment claims took a dip last week in Alexandria, according to the Virginia Employment Commission.

There were 123 initial (first-time) claims for the week ending October 24, which is a decrease of 30 claims from the previous week. There were also 125 initial claims for the week ending October 10; 139 initial claims for the week ending October 3; 107 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 26; 125 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 19; 120 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 12 and 155 initial claims for the week ending Sept. 5.
