The City of Alexandria is asking residents to weigh in on proposed safety and accessibility improvements along a stretch of Braddock Road that community members have identified as one of the most dangerous corridors in the city.

The project focuses on Braddock Road between Russell Road and North West Street, connecting residential neighborhoods to the Braddock Road Metrorail Station and popular walking and biking trails. The Virginia Department of Transportation has designated the section between Mount Vernon Avenue and North West Street as a top priority for pedestrian and bicycle safety upgrades statewide.

A man being held without bond in the Alexandria jail faces robbery charges for allegedly walking into convenience stores in Alexandria and Fairfax County with a hammer or tire iron and stealing cigarettes from behind the counters.

Anthony Nyreki Edwards, of no fixed address, goes to court Friday, Aug. 15 on two counts of felony robbery with a weapon. He was arrested on April 30 and has been linked to numerous incidents, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit:

Two people were transported to Inova Alexandria Hospital this afternoon (May 30) after a two-car crash at N. Van Dorn Street and W. Braddock Road.

The crash between a black truck and a gray vehicle was reported at around 12:30 p.m. and briefly shut down the intersection. One of the people transported to the hospital complained of arm, back and abdominal pain, but was walking and alert, according to dispatches with first responders.

Alexandria will receive $160,000 for two transportation projects that will improve pedestrian, bicycle, and roadway safety.

The National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) has approved the funding as part of its Transportation Land-Use Connections (TLC) Program and Regional Roadway Safety Program (RRSP).
