Two West End restaurants that were forced to close for more than a month after a delivery truck driver hit a power line behind the Shoppes at Foxchase are reopening on Thursday (Oct. 1).
ALXnow confirmed that La Casa Restaurant (4551 Duke Street) and Hong Kong Express (4545 Duke Street) will reopen with their normal operating hours. No other businesses were affected.
A 38-year-old Alexandria man was indicted by a grand jury today (Sept. 30) on murder charges for the July 15 fatal shooting of Charles Talley in the city’s West End.
The 36-year-old Talley was shot and killed on the evening of Wednesday, July 15, in the parking lot of the ParcView Apartments in the 5300 block of Holmes Run Parkway. Corey Delantau Stubblefield has been held without bond since his arrest in North Carolina on Aug. 27, and was charged with murder and use of a firearm in commission of murder.

Alexandria households are feeling a greater impact of federal government workforce reductions than the D.C. regional average, according to a recent regional survey.
The report released last Thursday (Sept. 24) from Gallup and the Greater Washington Community Foundation, titled “Voices of the Community: DC, Maryland, Virginia,” incorporated research on federal government disruptions on the region’s residents.

As the Transportation & Environmental Services plan for Russell Road is being appealed to City Council, the Alexandria Traffic and Parking Board rejected additional proposals for parking spaces on Russell Road.
On Monday (Sept. 28), the board considered parking additions that T&ES director Leah Riley had recommended in her Alternative C. The board voted against adding five on-street parking spaces in the 600 block of Russell Road, two loading zone spaces in the 600 block of Russell Road with time restrictions and six on-street parking spaces in the 700 block of Johnston Place.
A shop that sells New Zealand-style meat, sweet and veggie pies in Alexandria has renovated its interior and expanded operations.
Kiwi Kuisine Pie Shop at 4548 Eisenhower Avenue has still been selling sweet and savory pies for delivery and pickup, and at the Old Town Farmers’ Market and at Whole Foods in the city and across the country. On Saturday, Oct. 10, the shop will reopen its renovated interior with seating for customers and new morning hours.
Virginia State Police have released more details on Monday morning’s (Sept. 28) fatal crash that killed three teenagers and injured a fourth in a stolen vehicle.
According to state police, the vehicle was stolen two days before (Sept. 26) in Prince George’s County, Md. The stolen vehicle was spotted in the area of Stevenson Avenue and S. Walker Street in Alexandria’s West End around 12:45 a.m. Monday, and the driver sped onto northbound Interstate 395 when a state trooper tried to make a traffic stop. The driver lost control at the exit ramp for the Shirlington Road exit, causing the vehicle to strike a jersey wall.
