In March, we published 220 stories, the most ever published in a single month on the website, and reached 430,316 visitors, a 38% increase in traffic year over year. Just seventeen days into April, and we’re averaging ten new stories per day.

We’re conducting in-depth investigations into city government and budgets, reporting regularly on Alexandria City Public Schools, and diligently covering beats such as criminal justice and local business. We attend nearly every notable local meeting and provide daily coverage of events happening across the city.

The Study at Morrison House (116 South Alfred Street) is gearing up for a unique “Banned Book Speakeasy” event from April 23 to 26, 2025. They’re mixing things up by offering cocktails inspired by controversial books, with a dollar from each drink going to the Virginia Library Association.

The hotel’s website teases, “We want to let you in on our little secret… The Study at Morrison House is filling its shelves —and cocktail menu—with banned books. As a haven for storytelling, we’re celebrating the power of literature in all its forms while supporting local libraries”.

You already know that ALXnow is the place to go first for local news. But did you know that you can also promote your news on the site?

Yes, the new item on your menu or the award you just won from an industry association is unlikely to be headline news that we would cover. But you can submit it to us as an announcement.
