On This Day in Alexandria History — “On June 23, 1897, the Virginia Theological Seminary began a three-day commencement ceremony honoring the graduating class of 1897. On the first day of the event, the Rev. Dr. O.H. Tiffany of New York, a leading Episcopal cleric of the day, preached the Annual Missionary Sermon to a large audience … Guests attending the ceremonies arrived in Alexandria primarily by train, including the electric train that stopped at King and Washington Streets, and were transported to the Seminary by waiting carriages.” [Historic Alexandria]

Sunrise Still Visible in Waterfront Park Art Installation — “The sun will continue to rise within the opening between the sculptures for days—and likely several weeks—before gradually drifting beyond the edge of the artwork. Alexandria Man Charged with Fairfax County Child Sexual Assault — “According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers responded to the 8100 block of Fernlake Court shortly after 7 p.m. on June 16 after reports of a sexual assault. They were told that a man had walked in on a 9-year-old boy in a bathroom stall and touched him inappropriately.” [Old Town Alexandria Patch]

Small Business Roundtable with Del. Kirk McPike — “The Del Ray Business Association invites DRBA members to join Virginia Delegate Kirk McPike for a Legislative Town Hall focused on the opportunities and challenges facing small businesses in Virginia. Compromise on Data Center Tax in State Budget — “The proposed budget agreement, announced last Friday evening, kept the sales and use tax exemption for data centers, which has divided lawmakers in the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates. However, it adds a new data center electricity consumption tax, which would charge a rate of $0.011 per kilowatt hour based on the electricity a data center uses each month.” [ARLnow]

SoberRide Program Returns for July 4 Holiday — “Offered by the nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), the 2026 Independence Day SoberRide® program will be in operation beginning at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 4th (Independence Day) and operates until 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 5th as a way to keep local roads safe from impaired drivers during this traditionally high-risk holiday.” [Washington Regional Alcohol Program]
