On This Day in Alexandria History — “On Jan. 14, 1962, the new Alexandria Hospital on Seminary Road was officially dedicated. Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson cut the ribbon before a crowd of more than 5,000. The new facility cost around $3.7 million to build.” [Historic Alexandria]

Bennett-Parker Wins Dem Primary — “Del. Elizabeth Bennett-Parker (D-5) has been declared the winner in a firehouse primary for Virginia’s 39th District Senate seat, defeating three opponents with 70.6% of the 4,647 ballots cast … ADC released results just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14.” [ALXnow]

Also, OHA Director Wins Primary in FFX — “Democratic nominee Gretchen Bulova handily defeated Republican candidate Adam Wise to become the next delegate for Virginia’s 11th House District, taking over a seat most recently filled by her husband, David Bulova … Currently working as director of Historic Alexandria, Gretchen Bulova also serves as chair of Fairfax County’s history and 250th commissions.” [FFXnow]
