Update at 9 a.m. — Alexandria police said Duke Street has reopened in both directions of travel.
Rescue personnel are on scene of a multi-vehicle crash that sent at least three to trauma centers with serious injuries.
It was first reported around 11:50 p.m. on Duke Street at S. Quaker Lane. Firefighters reported three persons trapped in two different vehicles. A total of four or five vehicles were said to be involved.
The wreck has closed Duke Street for an extended period of time, for investigation and cleanup.
Fairfax County fire/EMS crews also responded to assist on the call.
