Personnel Investigation Cited Amid Policing Auditor’s Resignation — “A personnel investigation has been ongoing since at least Sept. 2, since [Independent Community Policing Review Board Chair Deborah] Porter confirmed ‘there was no staff available from the auditor’s office in September [for the Board’s Sept. 2 meeting] because of a personnel investigation.’ The Board’s Sept. 2 and Oct. 7 meetings were canceled. The October meeting was canceled following news of Kamara’s resignation, Porter said.” [Alexandria Times]

Samuel Madden Redevelopment Tops Out — “The six-story building replacing the Samuel Madden Homes in Old Town has reached its full height, a milestone developer Fairstead and its partners marked Wednesday with a topping-out ceremony. The $120 million project at 999 N. Henry St. will have 207 apartments reserved for families earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income.” [Alexandria Brief]

Students from Swedish Sister City Visit Alexandria — “Sister Cities Committee and @Office of Historic Alexandria hosted students from @ProCivitas Privata Gymnasium (High School) in Helsingborg, Sweden, one of Alexandria’s Sister Cities. The event was held at the The Lloyd House 220 N. Washington Street, for a cultural exchange and dinner reception.” [The Zebra]

APD to Host National Faith & Blue Weekend Kickoff — “The kickoff will feature an inaugural prayer breakfast on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the Virginia Tech Academic One Building, 3625 Potomac Ave., Alexandria, VA, bringing together a diverse group of faith and law enforcement leaders from across the region and country. The program will include a keynote address by Rev. Markel Hutchins, founder and national leader of MovementForward, Inc., the organization behind Faith & Blue.” [Alexandria Police Department]

Community Feedback Sought on Segment of Seminary Road — “The City is now sharing refined design options developed in response to earlier community input to help inform a preferred design for Seminary Road between George Mason Drive and North Beauregard Street. Residents have identified safety concerns along Seminary Road, which the City has also identified as a high-crash corridor.” [Alexandria T&ES]

ACPS Seeks Community Priorities for Next Budget Cycle — ACPS will host a Community Budget Forum to discuss the budget process, explore priorities for the next fiscal year, and allow residents to ask questions and share feedback. The forum is scheduled for 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Alexandria City High School Minnie Howard Campus Forum, and there is no virtual participation option. Flight Attendant Union Shares Concerns Over Triumphal Arch — “Association of Flight Attendants-CWA President Sara Nelson said the 250-foot (76 meter) arch compounds multiple safety concerns that she said have gone unaddressed from a deadly January 2025 crash over the Potomac River that killed 67 people. Nelson also criticized Trump’s plan to turn the arch into ‘a top grade military complex’ able to host drones and snipers while storing ammunition — a plan also sharply criticized by local elected officials.” [ARLnow]

Army Report Shows Failures Behind Fatal Collision Near DCA —”The military has not publicly released its report on the deadliest plane crash on U.S. soil in over two decades, but ultimately shared it with many of the families of the 67 people who died. For months, the families have been pressuring the Army in daily social media posts to release the report, which was completed in May.” [The Associated Press/WTOP]

Free Home Weatherization Workshop Offered to Residents — “The City of Alexandria is partnering with experts from My Favorite Fixer to offer a FREE, hands-on weatherization workshop for Alexandria residents on October 17, 2026.
