Man charged after machete attack in Alexandria’s Arlandria neighborhood

A man was charged with malicious wounding and is being held without bond after an alleged machete attack against a homeless man in the Arlandria neighborhood on Sunday (Oct. 4), Alexandria police say.

Around 1:35 p.m., the Alexandria Police Department received multiple calls about a man in a gray Toyota Camry getting out and attacking the victim with a machete near the intersection of W. Glebe Road and Executive Avenue.

The victim suffered a non-life-threatening head injury and was treated at George Washington University Hospital.

“The victim was struck with a sharp-edged weapon during an altercation and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries,” APD told ALXnow in an email. “The suspect was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and remains in custody. The incident remains under investigation.”

ALXnow is awaiting suspect information from APD.

This is the second stabbing incident against a homeless person in Arlandria in the last three weeks. The suspect in the Sept. 15 incident is currently being held without bond and goes to court on Oct. 21.
