Street Flooding Reported During Coastal Flood Warning — “Old Town Alexandria saw flooding along the Potomac River early Thursday morning, as abnormally high tides led to water covering some streets on the riverfront. Streets on the Strand and the end of King Street were covered in inches of water blocks inland from the river’s edge. As of Thursday, no flooding into businesses or buildings was reported, but parks and some roads were affected.” [NBC Washington]
Employees Describe Turmoil at ACPS Transportation Department — “The scenes from inside the department, described by 15 current and former ACPS employees, point to a pattern of organizational challenges they said have hampered the school district’s ability to effectively transport students. The district’s transportation director, MeChale’ Johnson, has faced mounting criticism since her hiring in late 2022. New Plan for I-495 Express Lanes Extension Presented — “Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) officials briefed the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ Transportation Committee on Tuesday (Sept. 22) on a revamped design that would allow both for Express Lanes and future Metrorail service on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. The inability to guarantee room for later rail service across the bridge was one of the reasons the I-495 Southside project was scuttled — at least temporarily — last year by the region’s Transportation Planning Board.” [FFXnow]

Kennedy Center Closure Extended for Another Week — “The executive director of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts said the venue will remain closed for at least another week in D.C., and he’ll re-evaluate week-by-week when the shutdown might end. In a Wednesday court filing, Matt Floca cited several hazards inside the building, including aging and falling plaster, as well as outdated electrical systems. Floca said recent inspections revealed deterioration in the underside of the building’s overhanging roof, which could endanger people trying to leave the building during an emergency.” [WTOP]
