On This Day in Alexandria History — “On September 10, 1955, within just a few years of doubling the size of the City of Alexandria by annexing land west of Quaker Lane from Fairfax County, the City completed its first comprehensive land use plan and economic base survey. In a demonstration of civic pride, these actions, and several others made in 1955 to create or reorganize City departments, were publicly presented at a special Municipal Exhibition-Demonstration that highlighted new services and activities offered by the City to its citizens, and a vision for the future. The ambitious municipal program, authorized by Mayor Leroy S. Bendheim and City Council, and implemented by City Manager Edward G. Great American Recovery Event Planned in September — “During National Recovery Month in September, the City of Alexandria and communities across the nation recognize the individuals and families who are overcoming addictions and mental health challenges, while encouraging those in need of support to get help … Join the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) on Wednesday, September 23 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Ben Brenman Park (4800 Brenman Park Drive) where all are welcome to show their support for recovery and share their story of recovery. Miracle League of Alexandria Makes Donation to ACPS — “The Miracle League of Alexandria presented ACPS with Brian’s Sensory Bags today, equipping 46 school buses with therapeutic toolkits designed to help students with disabilities feel supported and comfortable on their ride to and from school.
