An apparent small fire on the Metro tracks prompted an emergency response at the Braddock Road Metro station this evening (Tuesday).
The Alexandria Fire Department was called to the station (700 N. West Street) around 5:14 p.m. According to radio dispatches, a Metro supervisor called 911 to report potential wood burning on Track 2. Units found an apparent smoking crosstie and did not believe Metro had to shut down the electrified third rail.
According to the scanner traffic, a Metrorail train was stopped, and riders had evacuated the train. As of 5:31 p.m., firefighters reported the small fire was extinguished using a dry chemical and water can.
Metro reported on X that trains were single tracking between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street on the Blue Line and Huntington on the Yellow Line due to the smoke report at Braddock Road. Trains were no longer single tracking at 5:39 p.m., but riders may see delays in both directions, the transit agency said.
