Residents shouldn’t be alarmed when they see an increased police and fire presence at Alexandria City High School’s Minnie Howard Campus later this week.
The Alexandria Police Department, Alexandria City Public Schools and other emergency partners will hold an incident response drill at the campus (3775 W. Braddock Road) Thursday (Aug. 13). Expect police, fire and EMS vehicles and personnel to be in the area between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
The drill will involve an active violence simulation. According to a city release, the planned training exercise helps the city, ACPS and other partners improve their coordination and emergency procedures to protect the school and community.
“This activity is part of a planned training exercise and is not an actual emergency,” the release said. “No students will be present during the exercise.”
The city government asked residents to avoid the area, as only authorized personnel will be allowed on the Minnie Howard Campus during the drill.
