Drawbridge opening on Woodrow Wilson Bridge to bring traffic stoppages tonight

If you’re traveling over the Woodrow Wilson Memorial Bridge overnight, expect some traffic disruptions.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge’s drawbridge will have multiple openings between 10 p.m. Thursday, July 9 and 5 a.m. Friday, July 10 for maintenance work. Capital Beltway drivers crossing the bridge should expect traffic stoppages when the drawbridge opens.

The Woodrow Wilson Bridge spans the Potomac River between Virginia and Prince George’s County, Md. via the Capital Beltway. Maintenance and the passage of larger vessels under the drawbridge periodically disrupt traffic flow on the busy interstate.

While the original bridge required drawbridge openings roughly 260 times per year, the reconstructed span with a higher clearance opened in 2006 reduced that number to about 60.
