Tiki pop-up bar opens today at waterfront restaurant in Alexandria

Alexandria’s waterfront will get a taste of the Polynesian islands for much of the warmer season.

The Tiki Pop-Up Bar opened today (Thursday) in Vola’s Dockside Grill’s Hi-Tide Lounge (101 N. Union Street), which Alexandria Restaurant Partners owns. The pop-up is decked out in tropical decorations and serves Tiki cocktails and bites. Reservations are not accepted for the pop-up.

The cocktail menu features drinks ranging from $13 to $17 and punch bowls for two to four people priced between $32 and $39. Highlights include the Smuggler’s Mist (Del Maguey “Vida” mezcal, coconut cream, toasted sesame syrup, lime and pineapple juices, $16), Kohala Lava (a frozen drink with Cruzan single barrel rum, Cruzan light rum, basil, cinnamon, white pepper and honeydew, $15) and Mai Tide (Planteray 3 Stars white rum, Clément agricole blanc rhum, orgeat syrup, orange curaçao, pineapple and lime juice).

Zero-proof options include the Lemongrass-Ginger Julep (lemongrass-ginger syrup, fresh mint, honey and lime juice) and Sunset Squeeze (Lyre’s non-alcoholic agave blanco tequila, grapefruit juice, lime, agave nectar and tajín rim).

Island-inspired bites include charred pineapple BBQ spare ribs, huli huli chicken skewers, coconut shrimp, char siu pork egg rolls, sweet soy chicken wings and crispy fish lettuce wraps.

The Tiki Pop-Up Bar will be open through Aug. 31. Hours are 3–11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday.
