Science kits, race cars, Legos and sport balls.
Those are just some of the donation ideas Volunteer Alexandria is calling on the community to contribute to its annual holiday drive, Toys4ALX, which closes next Thursday, Dec. 11. Volunteers are aiming to collect more than 3,500 new, unwrapped toys for 700 kids and counting across the city.
“More and more parents are struggling to support their family due to higher costs,” Executive Director Marion Brunken said in a release.
The toys will be distributed to more than 300 families through partner organizations like The Miracle League of Alexandria and The Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse Center.
Other donation suggestions include magnetic tiles, Playmobil items, earbuds, Solar Robot toys, STEM-related toys, Barbies and dolls of all ethnicities with clothing. The drive is also accepting monetary donations.
Next Thursday is the last day to bring donations to the drive’s various drop-off locations, which are listed in the graphic below.
Toys may also be dropped off at the main collection hub at 3451 Richmond Hwy from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Dec. 9-10.
