The competition pool at the Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility has reopened following repairs to its filtration system.
The pool at 3795 W. Braddock Road unexpectedly closed last Monday after staff members noticed an issue in the pump room and coordinated a repair, according to a city announcement this afternoon (Monday).
The city brought in specialists “to complete the work as quickly as possible,” rebuilding the pool’s filter tank with replacement parts, according to the announcement.
The Minnie Howard Aquatics Facility is open from 6-9 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekends, with limited hours on Fridays for special events.
More from the city’s announcement is available, below.
During the closure, the Minnie Howard and Chinquapin aquatics teams worked together to accommodate scheduled programs, swim team rentals, and the ACHS dive team to prevent major service disruptions. Public swim hours in the training pool were also extended to provide additional options for residents.
The competition pool is now fully operational, and we appreciate the community’s patience during the repair process. For timely updates on aquatics facility operations, schedules, and service changes, please visit the City’s website at alexandriava.gov/Aquatics.
