A section of Diagonal Road will be temporarily closed to through traffic on Monday, July 14, as construction crews conduct crane operations in the area.
The City of Alexandria announced that Diagonal Road between Duke Street and King Street will be shut down from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate the construction work. Through traffic will be rerouted to Daingerfield Road during the closure.

Local access will remain available throughout the day, with residents and visitors still able to reach parking garages in the area. Metro bus service to and from King Street Metro Station will also continue operating normally.
The city plans to post traffic signs and parking restrictions to help guide drivers around the work zone. Flaggers will be stationed at key points to direct traffic safely through the area.
The closure affects a busy corridor that connects residential neighborhoods to the King Street Metro Station and Old Town Alexandria. Commuters and residents who regularly use Diagonal Road should plan alternative routes or allow extra travel time on Monday.
The city has not specified what type of construction project requires the crane operations or how long the overall project is expected to last.
