The City of Alexandria announced on Monday that Old Town Pool will close for three days due to critical filtration system issues, forcing swimmers to seek alternative locations during a period of extreme heat. The Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities (RPCA) stated that the nearly 50-year-old facility is experiencing ongoing issues with its main pool filtration system, which requires immediate attention.
To help residents beat the heat, the city is extending hours at other municipal pools and offering free passes to Great Waves Waterpark. Alexandria residents can pick up complimentary day passes at the Durant Center on Cameron Street between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. through Thursday, though quantities are limited and distributed first-come, first-served. The city’s four other public pools—Warwick, Memorial, Chinquapin, and Minnie Howard—will accommodate displaced swimmers, with some facilities extending their operating hours.
