Alexandria voters have multiple options to cast their ballots in the upcoming Democratic Party Primary Election on Tuesday (June 17).
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, but voters don’t need to wait until Tuesday to participate. Early voting continues through Saturday, June 14, at 5 p.m.
The Democratic primary ballot includes contests for the nominations of Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. Six candidates are vying for the Lieutenant Governor nomination: Levar Marcus Stoney, Babur B. Lateef, Aaron R. Rouse, Victor R. Salgado, Ghazala F. Hashmi, and Alexander J. Bastani.
The winner will face Republican nominee John Reid in the November general election, while current Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears is running for governor against Democrat Abigail Spanberger.
In the Attorney General race, Shannon L. Taylor and Jay C. Jones are competing for the Democratic nomination. The winner will challenge incumbent Republican Jason Miyares in November.
The Office of Voter Registration and Elections has released an eight-point checklist to help voters prepare for the primary.
On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, there will be Democratic Party Primary Election in the City of Alexandria. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Here are eight ways Alexandria voters can prepare for Election Day:
1. CONSIDER EARLY VOTING
All registered voters in Virginia are eligible to vote early. The deadline to cast an early ballot in person is Saturday, June 14, at 5 p.m.

- Thursday, June 12, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.
- Friday, June 13, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
- Saturday, June 14, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

- Saturday, June 14, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
2. CHECK YOUR POLLING PLACE
If you vote on Election Day on June 17, you must do so at your designated polling place. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Be sure to confirm the location and your registration at vote.elections.virginia.gov
before you go. You may also either call the Office of Voter Registration & Elections at 703.746.4050 or view the City’s current precinct map. For June 17, note the following changes to polling places:
- The former George Mason School Precinct will vote at Trinity Church (2911 Cameron Mills Road.)
- The Olympus Condos Precinct will vote at Landmark Towers (101 S Whiting St).
3. KNOW WHAT IS ON YOUR BALLOT
In Alexandria, the ballot will include contests for the Democratic nominations for Lt. Governor and Attorney General. Any qualified Virginia voter may vote in this primary. Review the ballot to help you make informed choices at the voting booth. Election officials are not permitted to provide information about candidates, so please conduct research to determine your choices before arriving at the polling place. 4. BRING YOUR ID
Virginia voters will be asked to show identification (ID) prior to voting. Examples of acceptable ID include a Virginia driver’s license, voter confirmation documents, United States passport, employee photo ID or student ID. Review the complete list of acceptable forms of identification at the Virginia Department of Elections website.
Voters who arrive at the polling place without an acceptable ID may sign an ID confirmation statement and vote using a regular ballot. Any voter who neither presents acceptable identification nor signs this statement must vote using a provisional ballot.
5. DON’T BE LATE
If you are planning to vote late in the day or after work, please remember that you must be in line at your polling place by 7 p.m. or you will not be able to vote.
6. SAME DAY REGISTRATION
If you missed the end of the normal registration period on May 27, Same Day Registration is available to you. To register and vote on the same day, you must be in the correct locality and at the correct polling location. You will be issued a provisional ballot, and you will cast your vote on this provisional ballot. 8. VIEW THE UNOFFICIAL RESULTS
After the polls close at 7 p.m. on Election Day, Alexandria election officials will begin posting unofficial results on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
During the weeks following the election, state and local Electoral Boards will canvass the results, make any necessary adjustments, and certify the official results.
