Weather Alert: Tornado Watch in effect for Alexandria

A Tornado Watch is in effect until midnight tonight (May 30 – June 1) for Alexandria and surrounding communities.

The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch at 5:02 p.m. on Friday (May 30). A Flood Watch also remains in effect from 7 p.m. through late night.

In response to the Tornado Watch being issued,  the City of Alexandria issued the following statement.

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for the region, including the City of Alexandria until midnight Saturday, May 31. Residents may experience damaging wind gusts, large hail, flash flooding, and tornado conditions. The City remains under a Flood Watch until 6 a.m. Saturday, May 31 and will continue to monitor conditions across the area.

Residents, businesses, and visitors should tune in to local media for more information and take appropriate actions to keep their households safe.

The City has teams on standby to respond to downed traffic signals and to conduct debris removal.

To report debris, down traffic signals, flooding, or other non-emergency items in the City, please utilize Alexandria’s customer service Alex 311 or call 703.746.4311. After 7 p.m. please call 703.746.4444.

For power outages, please notify Dominion Energy online or call at 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357).

For immediate police, fire, or emergency medical assistance, call or text 911.
