The Alexandria City Public Schools School Board meets Thursday (April 3) at 6 p.m. for its regular school board meeting, with several important topics on the agenda.
Board members will review the district’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan draft. The Strategic Planning Committee has been working on this plan for the past year, outlining the division’s vision, mission, and core values.
The board will also receive updates on recent legislative actions and how they might affect the school system. Lauren Gilbert from Advantus Strategies will explain General Assembly decisions and what the governor’s proposed budget could mean for schools.
A redistricting update is also on the schedule, though the agenda doesn’t provide many details.
Several policy revisions are up for discussion, including updates to student health services, medication administration, and suicide prevention policies. These changes aim to keep up with state code updates and align with Virginia School Boards Association model policies.
Reports from various committees, including Operational Excellence, Governance, and Strategy & Accountability, are also on the docket.
The public can comment during the meeting. If you want to speak, you can sign up online by noon the day before or in person between 5:15 and 5:45 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
The board will meet in person at the School Board Meeting Room, 1340 Braddock Place. You can watch it live on cable channel 71 in Alexandria. If you prefer to join remotely, there’s also a Zoom option available.
