Plans for Robinson Terminal North headed to City Council review this spring

Plans for Robinson Terminal North — the last major piece of waterfront development in Old Town — should be heading to the City Council for review this spring.

Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley said at the City Council meeting last night (Tuesday) the Waterfront Commission received an update about the project earlier this month at a meeting.

“The Robinson Terminal North development continues to move along,” Bagley said. “We anticipate that that development will come before planning in April and Council in May.”

The plan is to create a development straddling N. Union Street, with a mix of multifamily residential and ground-floor retail and a restaurant. The eastern side of the project will also have a smaller circular building near the water.

According to a staff report:

The applicant is proposing to construct two mixed-use buildings on the site known as Robinson Terminal North. The east building will be located on the east side of North Union Street and will be four stories above a below grade parking structure. This building will be mostly multi-unit residential with some ground floor amenity space and a circular restaurant on the river side of the building. The east building is a barbell shape with residential masses at the north and south end connected by a two-story glazed portion.

Plans showed the project will have public access along a naturalized shoreline with native plants, though some designs included a pier where a ship can moor.

The project is planned to be built in two pieces, Bagley said, with the west side built first and the east side — where most of the amenities will be built  — built after that.

Bagley said the Waterfront Commission expressed some concerns about access to the waterfront.
