Old Town restaurant cracks top ten in Washingtonian’s ‘100 Very Best Restaurants’ ranking

Two Alexandria restaurants made Washingtonian’s 100 Very Best Restaurants 2025 list, with one Old Town spot landing at the number 8 spot.

The list ranks restaurants around DC, Maryland and Virginia.

At the number 8 spot was Nasime, an upscale Japanese restaurant at 1209 King Street in Old Town. According to the ranking:

It’s hard to believe that Yuh Shimomura works this kitchen solo, conjuring a seven-course Japanese menu for up to 20 diners at a time. The $95 feast is one of the best values around, with seasonal standouts like fried spiny-lobster cake or a scrape-the-bowl dish of maple-and-soy-braised duck. An exquisite sashimi platter is always a menu highlight, as is a bubbling cauldron of noodle soup, recently featuring an earthy combination of Chesapeake oysters and Japanese mushrooms.

The restaurant was listed as expensive, with dinner for two costing between $201-$299.

Also on the list was Thompson Italian, which came in at spot number 90. The Italian restaurant started in Falls Church but also has a location at 1024 King Street. Washingtonian praised the restaurants excellent starters, pastas, and offering generous kids’ plates.

The number 1 spot on the ranking was Albi, a Middle Eastern restaurant in DC, offering unique Palestinian dishes.
