Man injured in felonious assault on Christmas Day in Alexandria’s Potomac West neighborhood

A man was injured by a gang in a felonious assault early Christmas morning in Alexandria’s Potomac West neighborhood.

A possible home invasion was called in at around 5:45 a.m. from an apartment in the 3800 block of Russell Road. The 30-year-old victim told police that at least six people wearing ski masks and dark clothing were attempting to break into his apartment, and were banging on the front door and breaking windows, according to police dispatch.

The victim suffered a non-life threatening head injury and was transported to the hospital. He told police that the suspects possibly had knives and firearms with them, according to dispatch. It is not clear if he was injured inside or outside the apartment building.

An APD officer who arrived at the scene confirmed that a window to the apartment was smashed, according to dispatch.
