Alexandria’s Housing Authority needs toys for Winter Wonderland event this weekend

The Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) is asking for help in making the holidays special for some local kids this weekend.

ARHA is collecting toys for its 15th annual Santa’s Winter Wonderland this weekend, in which children 17 and under who are members of ARHA households receive gifts from Santa.

“Santa’s Winter Wonderland is designed to ensure that every child has at least one gift for the holidays,” ARHA said in a release. “The event is mainly supported by the City of Alexandria and Toys for Tots.”

Donations are still being accepted with new, unwrapped toys for kids ages 1-17 being asked for specifically.

“For ages 1-12, consider donating toys such as: Magna tiles, Legos, Electronics, Toy Cars, Trucks, Arts and Crafts, Sports equipment, etc,” ARHA said in the release. “For ages 13-17, consider donating gift cards to Visa, Target, Old Navy, Chipotle or similar places.”

ARHA has set up donation drop boxes at:

  • ARHA Office at 401 Wythe Street
  • Charles Houston Recreation Center at 901 Wythe Street
  • Ruby Tucker Center at 322 Tancil Court

Donations are accepted through tomorrow (Thursday).

The giveaway events are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 13 and Saturday, Dec. 14., at the Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe Street). The Friday event will run from 2-5 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. and toy distribution at 4 p.m.
