New menswear store with on-site shoemaker opening in Old Town next week

In what is maybe the most Old Towny of business openings: a new cobbler is setting up shop in Old Town just behind City Hall.

Old House Provisions, a menswear store launched by 29-year-old “bespoke shoemaker” Drew Altizer, is opening next weekend at 315A Cameron Street. The store will also feature an on-site shoemaking workshop.

“Not only will I be the only shoemaker within 100 miles or so, but in addition to that, this is the only artisanal clothing store in the world to have an on-site shoemaker,” Altizer said in a release. “I’m extremely excited to share knowledge about this dying craft while also providing clothing and shoes from other brands that prioritize quality and tradition in the same way I do.”

The shop is set to launch on Saturday, Dec. 14, at noon and will feature a pop-up shop from DC-based Caswell Boot Co. The grand opening will include some giveaways.

“I always knew Old Town would be the best place for my shop because a traditional craft like bespoke shoemaking fits naturally with the historic charm of the area,” Altizer told ALXnow. “Also, unlike national brands, Old House Provisions is a small neighborhood shop dedicated to developing relationships instead of simply increasing sales, and Old Town is the perfect community to support a business like that.”
