Reminder: Do not stop on King Street to drop your kids off.

King Street and Braddock Road run right in front of the Alexandria City High School and Minnie Howard campuses. Alexandria Police Department (APD) is reminding drivers that both are busy streets and it’s an unsafe area to stop. APD has also stepped up traffic enforcement in those areas with the start of the school year.

In a Facebook post, APD wrote:

Keep it moving this afternoon for school pick up at Minnie Howard & ACHS Campuses. As a driver, traffic safety in and around our schools is more than a shared responsibility. There is signage along King Street near ACHS and along W. Braddock near Minnie Howard. Please do not stop and park in the roadway, it is a thoroughfare. It’s unsafe for drivers to stop there. Your adherence will keep everyone safe.

Additionally, speed cameras are live this week again in school zones near Francis Hammond Middle School, George Washington Middle School, John Adams Elementary School and Ferdinand T. Day Elementary School
