After years frequenting local farmers’ markets and the Made in ALX shop, Hypergoat Coffee Roasters will be opening a cafe this week in Old Town North, Alexandria Living Magazine reported.
The coffee company is owned by husband-and-wife Rodrigo Ramos and Deborah Joos. The pair started roasting coffee in their garage in 2015 and eventually launched Hypergoat Coffee Roasters in 2023.
“The name ‘Hypergoat’ is a playful nod to the Ethiopian legend of Kaldi, a goatherd who discovered coffee when he noticed his goats became energized — or ‘hyper’ — after eating the cherries from a certain tree,” the website said. “Like the legendary goats, we too found ourselves energized and inspired by the diverse universe of coffee.”
The new cafe is scheduled to open on Friday, Aug. 9, at 215 N. Payne Street. The cafe will be open form 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Alexandria Living Magazine said.
