A 15-year-old Alexandria boy was arrested after a series of armed carjackings and another vehicle theft in the West End last month, according to the Alexandria Police Department.

There were armed carjackings on July 9 and July 16 in the area of Northampton Road and Strutfield Lane, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

According to APD:

Both incidents involved a young Black male, approximately 14-16 years old, who approached two separate victims and robbed them at gunpoint. Each time, the victim would be near their vehicles and the suspect demanded their car keys…

A third incident occurred at around 5 p.m. on July 16 in the 5400 block of  Richenbacher Avenue. The victim told police that she’d parked her black Chevrolet Equinox and left the engine running, according to the search warrant affidavit. When she returned she found that the vehicle was gone, she started looking for it and found it parked nearby.

The victim and a witness contacted police, and then saw the alleged suspect approach the car with a key and get in, according to the search warrant affidavit. The victim’s companion then grabbed the suspect and they started to fight.

“During the altercation, a firearm was seen in the waistband of the (suspect),” police said in the search warrant affidavit. “(The victim) grabbed the firearm and tossed it into a bush to keep it away from the male.”

The suspect, who lives in the Southern Towers apartment complex, then allegedly ran from the scene and was arrested after a short foot pursuit with police. He was found hiding in bushes, according to the search warrant affidavit.

Police found the discarded firearm, searched the serial number and found that it was stolen, according to the search warrant affidavit.

The suspect is being held in the Northern Virginia Juvenile Detention Center and was charged with grand larceny of an automobile, possession of a firearm by a juvenile, possession of a stolen firearm by a juvenile and providing a false identity to law enforcement.

APD said that the investigation is ongoing.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the carjacking took place at the Southern Towers apartment complex.
