Patricia Washington has spent the last decade building Visit Alexandria into a major force for tourism and will be honored as The Chamber ALX’s Business Leader of the Year.

The Chamber ALX announced that recently retired President and CEO of Visit Alexandria Patricia Washington is their 2024 Business Leader of the Year.

“For twelve years, Patricia Washington led Visit Alexandria, which markets the City of Alexandria to tourists regionally, nationally, and internationally, to critical acclaim,” The Chamber ALX wrote. “Under her helm, the organization has grown Alexandria’s reputation as a ‘must-visit destination,’ bringing hundreds of millions of direct spending dollars into our hotels, restaurants, and businesses.”

The recognition notes that sales, meals and lodging tax receipts have grown from $55 million to more than $80 million per year during her tenure. The award cited tourism revenue as “saving the average Alexandria household more than $750 per year in taxes.”

Visit Alexandria has been a driving force behind getting the city listed in top city rankings repeatedly.

Washington will be honored at the 2024 Best in Business Awards on Oct. 17.
