Del Ray bakery Taste of Eurasia (428 A Hume Avenue) closed last month after seven years serving cuisine from the Caucasus, Central Asia and beyond.

In a post on Alexandria Dining — a popular group dedicated to Alexandria cuisine run by The Zebra Press — owner Shohina Touraeva said the restaurant was closing as she pivoted back to work in real estate.

The restaurant brought cuisine from Touraeva’s native Tajikistan to Del Ray. A profile in the Washington Post described dishes like Georgian khachapuri and Turkish pide, a flatbreat with lamb, onions, tomatoes, peppers and more.

The restaurant opened in 2017 and closed in late June.

Touraeva’s post on the group is shared here:

Dear Valued Customers and Friends,

After much thought and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our family bakery Taste of Eurasia. This decision has been incredibly hard for us, as our bakery has been a cherished part of our lives and this community for many years.

From the early mornings filled with the aroma of freshly baked sambusas and khachapuris to the joyful moments spent serving our loyal customers, every day at the bakery has been a blessing. We have loved being a part of your celebrations, your daily routines, and your lives. Your support, smiles, and encouragement have meant the world to us!

As we close this chapter, we are embarking on a new journey into the world of real estate. This move is driven by a desire to explore new opportunities and challenges, and we hope to bring the same dedication and passion to our new venture that we have always brought to our bakery.

We are profoundly grateful for the trust and loyalty you have shown us over the years. Thank you for being a part of our bakery family and for allowing us to serve you! We will carry the memories of our time here with us always, and we hope to stay connected with you in our new endeavors.

Moreover, I am excited to announce that I will be available to assist you with any of your real estate needs. Whether you are looking to buy, sell, or invest, I would be honored to help you navigate the real estate markets in VA, MD, and DC. (Shohinarealtor.com)

With gratitude and best wishes,

Shohina and family
