Regional gelato chain Pitango Gelato opened earlier this week at 115 S. Union Street in Old Town, a block away from the waterfront.
The location held a grand opening on Tuesday, June 25. The new location is next to Union Street Public House and less than a block away from Ben & Jerry’s.
“Thank you to all the Pitango Fans that have made our opening week a big success!” the company said on social media.
The local chain was founded back in 2007 and now operates six locations around D.C., Maryland and Virginia.
The shop is open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
“Pitango’s Old Town location serves 20 rotating gelato and sorbet flavors crafted with a traditional Italian Carpigiani freezer,” the shop’s website said. “In addition to frozen treats, Pitango Gelato & Coffee in Old Town will serve a full menu of premium coffees, along with a variety of croissants, cookies, scones and pastries made in-house daily. Croissants are hand-rolled at Pitango Bakery & Café, then proofed and baked fresh onsite in Alexandria.”
