It’s a busy Memorial Day weekend coming up, but if you aren’t registered to vote in the upcoming primary, be aware that this coming Tuesday is the last day that you can register in advance.
The primary is scheduled for June 18. In Alexandria, the main attraction is likely the contested Democratic primary for Mayor and City Council.
While it’s possible to do “same day registration” after that deadline, those will be considered provisional ballots, which are reviewed by the electoral board the day after Election Day.
“The deadline to register or update existing voter registration for the June 18, 2024 Dual Primary Election is Tuesday, May 28,” the city said in a release. “The June 18, 2024, Dual Primary Election will include contests for either the Democratic nominations for Mayor and City Council or Republican nomination for United States Senate. In Dual Primary Elections, qualified voters may vote in either Primary, but not both. They must indicate their choice to the Pollbook officer and may not be challenged on their choice.”
Voter registration can be submitted online, in-person at the Office of Voter Registration and Elections (132 N. Royal Street), or by mail to the same address.
Voters can check their registration status at vote.elections.virginia.gov
Registered voters can vote early until Saturday, June 15, vote by mail, or vote at a ballot drop box.
