Alexandria police are investigating a possible attempted dog poisoning in Del Ray, WUSA9 reported.
Animal Services officers with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) have charged a suspect in the attempted poisoning.
A note allegedly left at the mailbox the next day claimed the meat was “tainted” and the person threw the meat into the yard because they’d been bothered by the loud barking. The note also offered an apology and said the writer’s wife was not involved in the attempted poisoning.
“This was a premeditated act, and we are encouraging the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to take this matter seriously, and prosecute the crime as a felony,” AWLA’s Board Chair Julie Conway said in a statement to WUSA9.
The meat has been taken to the state animal health lab for testing.
