Old Town Restaurant Ada’s on the River to Open Next Week

Alexandria’s newest waterfront restaurant has officially targeted Thursday, Jan. 14 as its opening.

Alexandria Restaurant Partners announced in a press release that Ada’s on the River (3 Pioneer Mill Way) will open next Thursday with dinner reservations currently available.

“Located at 3 Pioneer Mill Way at Robinson Landing, Ada’s on the River will feature spectacular waterfront views and an extensive menu including a selection of prime steaks, fresh seafood and vegetarian dishes cooked to perfection by the wood-fired oven,” Alexandria Restaurant Partners said in a press release.

According to a press release, the restaurant will be dinner-only for its first week, but will extend to lunch and weekend brunches by the end of the month.

“The waterfront is prime and ready for new dining experiences, especially one that lends itself to outdoor dining,” ARP partner Dave Nicholas said in the press release. “Ada’s 105-seat patio will be a great attraction in the area and the water views from inside are the perfect complement the extensive coal-fired menu during the winter months.”

ARP is also planning to open BARCA Pier & Wine Bar, a new restaurant built from converted shipping containers, on the waterfront at Robinson Landing in spring 2021.

If you had a chance to enhance a child’s future with a time commitment of less than 2 hours a week, how would you respond? You have that opportunity right now to join over 200 Alexandrians as a reading tutor volunteer with the Alexandria Tutoring Consortium (ATC).

ATC tutors work with one child in kindergarten, first, or second grade in Alexandria public schools who need extra help with reading. Tutors meet with their Book Buddy 1-2 times each week for 30 minutes October-May at school, during school hours. Many struggling readers only receive one-on-one instruction through this program, and it makes all the difference. Last year, ATC served 195 children, of whom 82% ended the year reading on grade level and 96% made substantial reading gains. But the need is great, and we are still seeing learning lags from the pandemic.

This year, ATC plans to significantly increase the size of the program to reach over 250 students and to serve every elementary school in Alexandria. This is very exciting news, but we will only succeed if we can recruit more tutors. ATC trains you, matches you with a child, and provides ongoing lesson materials and support.
