Racial equity fund awards $200K to 29 Alexandria nonprofits and leaders

ACT for Alexandria’s Fund for Racial Equity has awarded more than $200,000 in grants to 29 local organizations and individuals, the organization announced in a new report.

The nonprofit created the fund in 2020 and established a resident community advisory board to lead grantmaking in 2024. The advisory board led three rounds of grantmaking over the next two years, awarding flexible, unrestricted grants to the organizations and individuals, according to ACT for Alexandria’s A Journey in Hope report.

Developer donates Potomac Yard land for 88-unit affordable housing project

Wesley Housing will develop 88 affordable rental apartments on land donated by JBG SMITH as part of the large-scale Potomac Yard redevelopment, the organizations announced in a press release provided to ALXnow this morning.

The six-story building planned for a 0.55-acre parcel at 601 E. Glebe Road will feature predominantly two- and three-bedroom family units serving households earning between 30% and 80% of the area median income. Average rents will target families at 60% of AMI.

ACT for Alexandria awards $38K to these organizations to fight systemic racism

ACT for Alexandria is giving $38,000 to 19 nonprofits and community leaders to dismantle systemic racism and advance racial equity, the nonprofit announced today.

The $2,000 individual donations were made from the organization’s Fund for Racial Equity, and approved projects include a spelling bee for local students, a mobile eye health clinic, and a mentorship program for community pharmacists, according to ACT.
