Pillar Wealth Partners will embark on its next chapter when it opens in the Atrium Building at 277 S. Washington Street on Feb. 1. An office warming and ribbon cutting will be held Feb. 10 to celebrate.

A dog died in a high-rise apartment fire at 1202 S. Washington Street on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 9).

The Alexandria Fire Department responded to the blaze at an apartment on the eighth floor just before 4 p.m. and found “dark smoke conditions,” as well as a smoldering mattress and a deceased dog in a cage by the bed, according to AFD dispatches.

National veterinary chain Livewell Animal Hospital is planning on opening in Old Town.

Livewell is currently hiring a hospital manager and a lead veterinarian for its Alexandria location in the Atrium building at 277 S. Washington Street in Old Town. Additionally, there is a Board of Architectural Review meeting scheduled for Thursday night (June 5) to discuss adding an illuminated sign to the exterior of the building and animal-shaped vinyl decals to the glass windows and front doors.

A proposal for a new French bakery in Old Town will be submitted to the Board of Architectural Review on Wednesday (May 7).

Arlington-based Eclairons Pastry and Coffee House wants to open at the old Firehook Bakery at 430 S. Washington Street. The location was Shuman’s Bakery for more than 30 years before Firehook Bakery took over in 2004.

The Alexandria Police Department is on the lookout for a white Ford F-150 pickup truck that allegedly took off after crashing into a Metrobus in Old Town.

A bus driver alerted police that the F-150 struck a rear-view mirror of the bus at 11:09 a.m., and reported that the truck didn’t stop and continued northbound on Washington Street in the direction of D.C., according to dispatch.

An undisclosed amount of liquor was stolen from an Old Town restaurant after a suspect used a brick to smash a glass door, according to staff.

Workers at the restaurant said that at some point overnight a suspect smashed a side door to Mae’s Market & Cafe at 277 S. Washington Street and stole liquor from the bar.

A Hyattsville man suspected of stealing thousands worth of cosmetic items from multiple CVS stores in Alexandria was arrested with two others in Maryland earlier this month.

The three Maryland men are suspected of stealing more than $100,000 in merchandise from Target and other stores throughout the region and were arrested on April 19 by a deputy from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office. They were charged with grand larceny, possession of stolen goods with the intent to sell and conspiracy to commit retail theft of more than $50,000 in five days.
