An Alexandria woman pleaded guilty today (Tuesday) in federal court for stealing more than $22,000 from her former employer, a member of Congress.
Courtney Melissa Hruska, 40, pleaded guilty to wire fraud, a felony with a maximum term of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Lindsey Halligan, who, as a hastily appointed Justice Department prosecutor, pursued indictments against a pair of President Donald Trump’s adversaries, is leaving her position as her months-long tenure has now concluded, Attorney General Pam Bondi said Tuesday night.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A grand jury has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on a fraud charge in the latest Justice Department case against a perceived enemy of President Donald Trump, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on Thursday.
James was indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia on one count after a mortgage fraud investigation, said the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia filed a class action lawsuit in Alexandria federal court today, alleging that Immigration and Customs Enforcement is unlawfully detaining young immigrants who have a legal pathway to citizenship — part of what the complaint describes as the Trump administration’s mass deportation strategy.
The lawsuit, filed in the Alexandria division of the Eastern District of Virginia at the Albert V. Bryan U.S. Courthouse, challenges ICE’s detention of unaccompanied minors who entered the United States after being abused, neglected, or abandoned by their parents — young people who federal law protects from detention.
