An Alexandria woman pleaded guilty today (Tuesday) in federal court for stealing more than $22,000 from her former employer, a member of Congress.

Courtney Melissa Hruska, 40, pleaded guilty to wire fraud, a felony with a maximum term of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

A federal judge has ruled that Dr. Badar Khan Suri’s habeas case will stay in Virginia. The case, which alleges violations of his constitutional rights, will be heard in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia – Alexandria Division.

The decision, made on May 6, allows Dr. Khan Suri to challenge the constitutionality of his arrest and detention in Virginia, where his family lives. Dr. Khan Suri, a Georgetown scholar with a valid visa and married to a U.S. citizen, was arrested by federal immigration agents on March 17.

A district court judge on Tuesday (April 16) convicted an Alexandria man, who worked for the Department of Commerce, of possessing and receiving child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

In a bench trial, Rafferty Daniel Kelly, 40, was found guilty by Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff of one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
