A 39-year-old Alexandria man is being held without bond and goes to court this month after allegedly firing a handgun at three people in a fleeing vehicle in the West End.

The chilling incident occurred on Jan. 6 – the same day as a snowstorm that shut down the city and closed the school system.

A 28-year-old D.C. resident faces multiple charges after allegedly eluding the Alexandria Police Department in the city’s West End.

The man was arrested on January 13 for reckless driving and disregarding a police command to stop during an attempted traffic stop near the 200 block of S. Van Dorn Street on the evening of Friday, Nov. 22, 2024.

A 33-year-old D.C. man was sentenced last month to eight months in prison for committing a string of petit larcenies at grocery stores in Alexandria and Fairfax County.

The man was arrested on January 28 for four outstanding warrants in Alexandria, nine outstanding warrants in Fairfax County, and 38 failure-to-appear larceny-related charges, according to a recently released search warrant affidavit.

A 48-year-old Maryland man is being held without bond after allegedly abducting his ex-girlfriend in her luxury apartment in Alexandria’s Carlyle neighborhood.

The incident occurred on the morning of Jan. 28 (Tuesday) in an apartment in the 800 block of John Carlyle Street. Just after 9:30 a.m., a woman called 911 to report an abduction of her friend by her friend’s ex-boyfriend.

After a four-day trial, a jury this week ignored an insanity defense and found an Alexandria man guilty of murdering an acquaintance in the BJ’s Wholesale Club in 2021.

On Wednesday, March 5, Rakibul Fakir, was convicted of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of 29-year-old Abiy Zemene inside the store at 101 S. Van Dorn Street on Sept. 25, 2021.

A 32-year-old Alexandria man has been found guilty for pimping out his girlfriend from his apartment.

Orayl Ingram was convicted on Feb. 28 for pandering and sex trafficking. He is currently being held without bond in the city jail, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for each offense. His sentencing is scheduled for June 5.

More details have been released on the alleged attempted abduction and sexual assault near Holmes Run Dog Park last fall, as well as the arrest of a suspect.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Oct. 29. A suspect, 21-year-old Rohid Hakimi, was arrested on Nov. 14 — two weeks after the incident occurred. He is currently being held without bond in the Alexandria jail.

More details have been released on Alexandria resident Timothy McGhee, a substitute teacher in Arlington charged in January with stalking and taking indecent liberties with an underage Washington-Liberty High School student.

McGhee, a 47-year-old substitute math teacher at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington, unsuccessfully ran for state Senate in Arlington and Alexandria in 2011. He was arrested on Jan. 10 and charged with stalking and taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a supervisory or custodial relationship.

Locals around the region may have received texts recently for “unpaid toll bills” — be aware that this is part of a ‘smishing’ scam making the rounds nationwide.

Smishing is a type of data phishing scam that uses text messages to lure people into giving personal information. The text going around gives a url and tells the receiver to put the address into their Safari browser and open it.
