Every means of transportation comes with unique risks; this includes cars, trucks, motorcycles, and bicycles. However, bicyclists face hazardous risks because they are more vulnerable on the road; a bicycle does not protect them as much as a car. “Every year from 2008 to 2012, an average of 265 crashes involving a bicycle occurred,” according to Denver Public Works.

Furthermore, most cycling-related accidents involve motor vehicles and cyclists; unsurprisingly, cyclists suffer the most injuries. In a crash between a motorist and a cyclist, the injuries a cyclist sustains are usually disproportionately serious, sometimes fatal. Understanding the risks associated with riding a bicycle, every bicyclist should be cautious; this includes not wearing headphones while cycling.
