On February 25th, local AI consulting company hello EIKO hosted an educational webinar for parents of teens focused on helping them navigate the ethics and practical applications of AI. Now, hello EIKO is hosting a hands-on workshop for parents who want to get started with AI but aren’t sure where to begin. They will walk you through setting up an account, understanding what these tools can actually do, and writing prompts that get useful results. No experience needed, just bring your laptop. (more…)

Parents in Alexandria know the drill: high school moves fast, college and internship competition feels tighter, and the “success bar” keeps moving. In the 2024-25 admissions cycle, the Common App platform crossed 10 million total applications, even though fewer than 1.5 million students applied. It’s not that teens aren’t working hard, it’s just that the landscape is shifting under their feet.

Now there’s another change shaping student life: generative AI. Used well, AI can help teens research, brainstorm, outline, practice interviews, and iterate on ideas, moving from “Where do I start?” to “Here’s my plan.” As more workplaces signal that applied AI capability is becoming a baseline expectation for entry-level talent, families face a practical question: how do we help our kids build real fluency, not just familiarity?

That’s the focus of hello EIKO’s virtual parent workshop, an online hour designed to help parents support teens through college decisions, first internships, and early jobs during a period of rapid change. The goal isn’t to turn parents into experts, but to give families a shared foundation and a simple way to guide teens through using AI thoughtfully, ethically, and effectively.

“Parents don’t need to know everything about AI to be helpful,” said hello EIKO co-founder Eve Koopmann Odar. “But it makes a big difference when families have a few fundamentals and a simple framework they can use together, so teens build judgment and skills, not just get answers.”

What you’ll learn

Parents will leave with tools they can use right away, especially if their teen is already experimenting.

  • Overview of todays AI landscape for our teens
  • GenAI fundamentals: what it is, what it’s good at, and where it can mislead
  • Conversation starters: questions you can ask to understand how your teen is using AI and what support they need

About the speakers

hello EIKO is a small, two-founder team with a simple belief: AI proficiency comes from practice. Their work blends hands-on instruction with coaching and repetition because knowing concepts isn’t the same as applying them in real situations. That approach carries into the parent workshop, which focuses on what families can do at home, how to spot when AI is helping versus hindering, set reasonable guardrails, and ultimately help leverage AI in an effective, ethical, credible way.
