4 Creative, Crafty Ways to Celebrate Spring

Several national articles in the past few weeks have touted the health benefits of doing something creative. Working with your hands on something fun can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and improve focus!

Here are some opportunities to get crafty at Made in ALX; no experience required. Grab a friend, and pair these with brunch or dinner at your favorite local restaurant!

Saturday, March 14, 4 p.m. – Learn Dip Pen Calligraphy. In this 1.5-hour, beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn the basics of dip pen (pointed pen) calligraphy, including proper pen use, strokes, and letterforms. All materials are included. Each participant will leave with a finished journal and a full calligraphy starter kit to continue practicing at home!

Sunday, March 15, noon – Make Your Own Beaded Hoop Earrings. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn essential jewelry-making techniques including wire wrapping, bead placement, and hoop assembly — all in a relaxed and supportive environment. By the end of class, you’ll leave with a stunning, handmade pair of earrings you created yourself!

Sunday, March 15, 3 p.m. – Make a Spring (Ostara) Wreath. Make your own Ostara wreath featuring dried flowers, herbs, citrus slices and more. Ostara symbolizes balance, renewal and the rebirth of the earth after winter.

Sunday, March 22, noon – Cherry Blossom Watercolor Painting Class. Learn a variety of watercolor techniques as you complete a playful painting of a Tidal Basin picnic.
