Five local businesses in Old Town are hosting a weekend of discounts to encourage hands-on, screen-free activities.
The “Analog Bag Weekend” is coming to fibre space, Penny Post, Pippin Toy Co., Red Barn Mercantile and Stitch Sew Shop this Saturday and Sunday. Attendees at the event are encouraged to bring their own bags and visit each shop to collect patches while browsing supplies for creative hobbies.
The weekend promotion is inspired by the concept of an analog bag, which is filled with creative activities “designed to replace habits of excessive screen usage with more intentional, hands-on experiences,” according to a release. NPR last month described the trend as “Gen Z’s solution to doomscrolling.”
“As screen time and doomscrolling continue to rise, Analog Bag Weekend invites the community to slow down, create with their hands, and reconnect with hobbies that inspire joy offline,” the businesses said in a release.
Participating stores will offer sales on goods for activities like knitting and watercolors. Tickets to participate are $35 and come with access to limited-edition patches designed by artist Hey Sooj, available to collect and attach at each store.
The following discounts will be available at participating stores throughout the weekend, according to an event description.
