A new teahouse is opening in Old Town, offering a variety of teas, tastings and shopping opportunities for tea lovers.
Seven Teahouse is under construction at 101 S. Royal Street in Old Town Alexandria near City Hall. Signs on the windows indicate an opening sometime this fall.
Seven Teahouse got its start in a Loudoun County farmers market before opening its original location in Leesburg in 2024. The Leesburg spot will stay open, and more locations are in the works.
The tea house focuses on traditional teas, with an extensive menu that includes both loose-leaf tea and bagged tea in varieties including black, white, green and oolong. Bubble tea is not on the menu, but the Leesburg location also serves coffee and pastries.
Seven Teahouse also features guided tea tastings, a tea brewing workshop and the “Matcha Lab,” which includes both matcha tasting and brewing guidance.
“For centuries, tea has been a bridge between cultures, a language through which China has spoken to the world. Yet in much of the modern American market, tea has become little more than a commodity,” the company’s website says. “We wondered: What does truly good tea taste like? And where can it still be found?”
The name of the teahouse comes from a few different ideas.
One is the cycle of a week with seven days to give tea sippers “a reminder that every day is a goodness.” In addition, the company’s website states, “Traditionally, tea is divided into six categories: Green, White, Yellow, Oolong, Black, and Dark. We believe there is a seventh. The Seventh Tea is personal.”
The owners of Seven Teahouse did not respond to a request for comment from ALXnow.
