Jewelry store gorjana files paperwork to open on King Street

A California-based jewelry store has filed paperwork to open a location at 726 King Street.

There are more than 130 gorjana jewelry stores across the country, the nearest located in Tysons Corner, D.C. and Bethesda, Md. The company is asking Alexandria’s Board of Architectural Review to approve its certificate of appropriateness at its meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

The 870-square-foot property was previously home to Nicecream, a shop that made ice cream with liquid nitrogen. That store closed in 2021. The building has also hosted Falafel Inc at 724 King Street since 2022.

Gorjana is asking the city for permission to remove tile in the front entrance, refit the store with new metal storefront frames, and add a new canopy and business sign.

Gorjana was founded in 2004 by Jason and Gorjana Reidel. They opened their first brick-and-mortar location in 2016 in Laguna Beach, Calif.
