Alexandria City Council to consider flood mitigation grant, parking enforcement review at Tuesday meeting

The Alexandria City Council will meet Tuesday for its regular legislative session, with agenda items ranging from flood preparedness funding to an update on the city’s parking enforcement pilot program.

The meeting begins with a closed executive session at 5:30 p.m., followed by the public session at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at 301 King St.

Key agenda items

Parking enforcement update: City Manager James Parajon will provide an oral report on the city’s parking enforcement pilot program, offering an update and analysis of the initiative.

Flood mitigation grant: Council will consider a resolution supporting a grant application to the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund Program. The funding would continue the design and professional services for the Waterfront Flood Mitigation Project.

Transportation support: The council will vote on a resolution supporting Arlington County’s Northern Virginia Transportation Authority application for improvements to the South Glebe Road-West Glebe Road intersection.

Grant applications: Two additional grant-related items are on the consent agenda:

  • A Department of Community and Human Services application to the Mayor’s Alliance to End Childhood Hunger
  • A U.S. Conference of Mayors Healthy and Sustainable Communities Grant application

Paratransit funding: Council will consider a request to release contingency funds for the Department of Transportation’s paratransit program.

Recognitions

The meeting will include the presentation of two proclamations:

  • Recognition of the 2025 Ben Brenman Award winners
  • Recognition of Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-31

Council members will also provide oral reports on their activities with various boards, commissions and committees, including updates from the City Council/School Board Subcommittee, Waterfront Commission and Virginia Railway Express.
