Springfield man killed in I-395 crash after vehicle struck at high speed

A Springfield man died Saturday after his disabled vehicle was struck by another car traveling at high speed on Interstate 395 in Alexandria, according to a Virginia State Police press release.

Hennry O. Ortuno Flores, 45, was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla southbound on I-395 when his vehicle crashed and became disabled in the travel lanes near the 3-mile marker around 2:20 a.m. Saturday.

The initial crash was not reported to law enforcement.

A 2021 Hyundai Venue, driven by Dina I. Villalobos Lazo, 41, of Woodbridge, then struck the disabled Corolla while traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.

Ortuno Flores, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries in the second crash and later died at an area hospital.

Villalobos Lazo was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.

Charges are pending, and the crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.

The fatal crash occurred on a section of I-395 that runs through Alexandria.
